On Sunday 18 October, football takes a bit of a back seat

Rotherham United Women will dedicate our home game against Doncaster Rovers Belles Development to Owen Jenkinson, his family and Owen’s October Challenge.

After speaking with Owen’s family, we want the afternoon to be a celebration of Owen – his love of football, the people he brought togethe r and the incredible work now being done in his name.

The game will be pay what you can. Whether it’s £1 or £20, just give whatever you can afford, with every penny raised through admission going to Owen’s October Challenge in support of PACT.

We also want to make a proper day of it, with raffle prizes, penalties on the pitch, activities for the kids and more, alongside a South Yorkshire derby between Rotherham and Doncaster.

Bring the kids, your grassroots team or your mates. Come in a Rotherham shirt, come in a Doncaster shirt. Everyone is welcome.

Owen was a massive Miller who loved his football and became a familiar and much-loved part of the Rotherham United family.

He sadly passed away in November 2025, aged just 17, following his battle with Ewing sarcoma.

But the impact Owen had on people hasn’t gone away. His family and friends have made sure of that.

Throughout October, hundreds of people are running, walking or wheeling every day as part of #TeamJenko and Owen’s October Challenge, raising vital funds for PACT and helping other families going through incredibly difficult times.

Among them are two very familiar faces to Millers supporters, John Breckin and former Rotherham United manager Ronnie Moore.

RUWFC co-owner Scott Thorpe said: “When we spoke to Owen’s family about doing something around the game, it just felt right.

“Owen was a massive Miller. He was one of us, and anyone who followed his story knows how much Rotherham United meant to him and how much he came to mean to people around the club.

“What his family have been through is unimaginable, but what they’ve done in Owen’s name since is incredible.

“We want the 18th to be a celebration. Kids taking penalties, families enjoying themselves, a good game of football and hopefully plenty of people coming together for Owen and to raise money for PACT.

“There’s no normal admission price. Whether you’ve got £1 or £20, just give what you can.”

John Breckin, who is taking part in Owen’s October Challenge, said: “Owen meant a lot to people around Rotherham United and it’s been incredible to see how many people have got behind his family and the challenge.

“I’m proud to be taking part and hopefully we can get a great crowd down on the 18th, raise plenty of money for PACT and make it a really special afternoon for Owen and his family.”

Scott added: “It’s Rotherham against Doncaster, so of course we’ll want to win, but this is one of those days where the result isn’t really the most important thing.

“If people enjoy themselves, we get a few more youngsters down watching football and together we raise a really good amount for PACT, that’s a pretty good Sunday.

“Whether you’re a Miller, a Doncaster supporter or you’ve never been to one of our games before, come down and join us.

“Let’s make it a lovely afternoon for Owen and his family.”
