The Millers embark on the first leg of what they will hope is a long cup journey this weekend.

Fresh from back to back league games to start the season proper, RUWFC head into three cup matches in a row.

First up is a local derby against Doncaster Rovers Belles in the first round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA County Cup at Roundwood.

The Belles having finished second in the National League Division One North – a tier above Rotherham – last season but have begun this campaign in patchy fashion, with a draw and three defeat following a 7-1 opening day victory.

Millers manager Pete Jarvis, whose side initially struggled to contain Chesterfield last weekend before an impressive second half rally salvaged a 2-2 draw, said he expected another testing game on Sunday.

Jarvis (pictured left with first team coach Ryan Hartle) said: “They (Doncaster) battered us last year, but I think this time round we are a stronger team and will be a lot more competitive.

“We are going to be underdogs going into it – they are a tier above us and finished second in Tier Four last year, but we’ve made some very big improvements very quickly and I think we can certainly go there and really try and cause an upset.

“It’s a big tie against former FA Cup winners, and they are a big club so I’m hoping it draws the crowd in and I look forward to seeing everyone down there.”

The following Sunday brings the first of two away trips after Rotherham were drawn against Nottinghamshire side Arnold Eagles in the League Cup.

Eagles began their league season with a 3-1 win over Beaumont Park two weeks ago after dropping down to the East Midland Women’s Regional Football League Division One Central after a winless campaign last time round.

The two sides’ last encounter in March went 3-0 the way of the Millers thanks to goals from Jess Jones, Madison Wilson and Dina Sarayreh.

Looking further ahead, October 1 sees Rotherham joining the hunt for FA Cup glory with an away tie at Dronfield Town.

Dronfield enjoyed a 7-0 drubbing of Grimsby Borough in their season opener and sit proudly top of EMRFL Division One North.
