A shot at silverware is tantalisingly close for Rotherham United Women with a semi-final tie on the horizon.

The Millers travel to Chesterfield on March 10 for the semi-final of the East Midlands Women’s Regional League Plate.

Kettering Town, Leicester City or Northampton Town will await Pete Jarvis’ side in the final should they overcome the Spireites, who have proved a tough nut to crack so far this season.

The semi-final spot was secured with a gritty display against Nottingham Trent University.

Despite carving out presentable chances, the Millers were frustrated until extra-time, with the additional half-hour needed after the tie ended 0-0.

It was sub Caitlin O’Callaghan who made the breakthrough, fellow striker Jessie Broadhurst adding a second to seal the hard-fought victory.

Broadhurst has proved a talisman in the Plate this season, having scored twice in a 3-0 win at Notts County Devs in the previous round, and will be looking to add to her tally when the Millers head to Chesterfield.

The Millers’ Reserves are also in the hunt for silverware and have been drawn to play Dronfield Town in the quarter-final of their Shield competition.

The match will be played at Roundwood on March 3.Before that both sides have some important league games coming up.

The Firsts travel to Basford United on Sunday, February 25, and to table-topping Lincoln United on March 3.

The Reserves meanwhile head to Kiveton Park on 25 February
