STRIKER Lexie Butterworth helped fire Rotherham United into the top two, before declaring she’s loving life as a Miller.

The 17-year-old netted for the fifth league game in a row since joining Adam Rawlings’ promotion-chasing side in a 5-1 win over Anstey Nomads at Roundwood.

There were five different scorers for the Reds, whose goals-for total is a division-best 41 in 11 games. That’s not counting the eight they bagged against Ilkeston Town, whose results were expunged after they withdrew from the league.

Lauren Winter, Alesha Gale, Beth Howarth and Jess Jones were also on the mark for the Millers, who stepped up the tempo after a scrappy first half and dominated their Leicestershire opponents from front to back.

Butterworth headed home a Gale corner two minutes after the break to give Rotherham breathing space and establish the platform for a third successive home win.

“I saw it coming, just jumped and…yeah, it went in,” she laughed.

Lauren Winter poked the Millers into the lead on 17 minutes following a goalmouth scramble but it took a further half-hour before Butterworth’s header left Anstey further in arrears.

Gale, who had tried her luck several times already, added a third after exchanging passes with debutante Masani Springer-Williams.

Howarth thumped home a header from a searching Sophie Gordon cross on 71 minutes and, after Anstey had briefly cut the lead following a defensive error, Jones raced onto Winter’s through ball and slotted inside Bird’s near post to complete the scoring.

Butterworth said she felt she had settled into the side really well, adding: “When I joined, I just wanted to make an impact with the team and get a few goals.

“I’m starting to get to know how the team play and we’re just being really successful.

“The atmosphere in the squad is really good – we’re happy to get another three points.”

Asked about the Millers’ prospects for promotion, the striker added: “I think we can definitely give it a good go. We can definitely pick up some more points over the next few games.”

Rawlings said: “We’ve rotated our squad quite a lot to balance out minutes and make sure we remain fresh all over the pitch and that we maintain our standards.

“To have five goalscorers is exceptional and a sign of where we are in this moment and of everyone pushing to great heights.”

Sunday’s win was a fifth league victory in a row for the Millers, who are unbeaten in competitive games at Roundwood since September (save for an FA Cup defeat on penalties).

They will aim to continue that run with the visit of Mansfield Town this Sunday (kick-off at 2pm).

Rawlings said: “It’s been really good and we’ve been able to make it a little bit of a fortress but game on game, it doesn’t really matter where we play, we just need to keep our standards as high as we can as long as we can.”
