Socrates Ladies 1-7 Rotherham United Reserves 

Three goals plus one clean sheet added up to three points and one happy bus ride home as Rotherham United Women overcame Dunton & Broughton.

The 3-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of the Millers’ dominance in front of goal but in truth both sides will feel they missed chances to score.

The home side bombarded Georgia Ward’s goalmouth with crosses in a 15-minute onslaught after the break, drawing some athletic clearances from the keeper and requiring midfielder Lauren Winter to head one goal-bound effort off the line.

The Millers could have been out of sight by then, a host of chances going begging once Jessie Broadhurst’s header from a Sidni Simmons free kick had given them the lead.

Delia Hurdiss, making her full debut, could hardly believe she had been flagged offside after slotting home when clean through, and was frustrated again when she put a right-footer just wide.

After the interval, Dunton rallied and Ward had to beat away a series of shots as the home side threatened to erase the deficit.

Broadhurst missed the chance to extend the lead, allowing home keeper Ula Korga to save as she raced through, while neat passages of approach play from the team in purple and white failed to result in clear cut chances.

It was Hurdiss who found the second half breakthrough, collecting a ball through the centre and advancing to clip a composed finish over the stranded Korga for her first Millers goal.

Pete Jarvis made a series of subs as he looked to fresh legs to put the game beyond the red-and-black-clad home side.

And Lauren Brogan, in an impressive midfield cameo from the bench, weaved her way through with five minutes left on the clock to add the icing on the cake of the Millers’ first away league win of the season.

Bottom club Long Eaton are up next this Sunday as we look to make it two wins in a row.

There was also cause for celebration for the Reserves as they posted a spectacular 7-1 victory over Socrates Ladies at Thurcroft Hub.

Emily Evans and Georgia Harris both scored twice, while Rayanne Haywood, Sofiat Rufus and Lucie Thompson all added their names to the scoresheet.

The Reserves take on SJR Worksop on Sunday.
