Rotherham United Women will aim to take a step towards a top two finish when they take on local rivals Sheffield FC this weekend.

The Easter Sunday showdown will take place at Sheffield’s Home of Football Stadium (kick-off at 2pm).

The red-and-blacks secured the top spot on Sunday and are three places ahead of the Millers, who are looking for a strong finish to the league season.

The match is a dress rehearsal for the League Cup final on May 18, which will see the two South Yorkshire sides clashing at the Nottingham base of Arnold Town FC.

Rawlings extended his good wishes to the newly-crowned champions, saying: “Congratulations to Sheff FC on their title win.

“They’ve had an almost impeccable season, so credit and respect to them.

“We as ever are simply focused on ourselves to take everything we can from these last three games.”

Rotherham welcomed Notts County to Roundwood two weeks ago for a friendly which allowed the team to get more minutes in the bank between competitive games.

Under-21s player Chloe Baren made the step up to the First Team, following in the footsteps of Young Millers teammates Emily Bell and Ruby Hellewell and demonstrating the pathway which gives young players the chance to earn a taste of the senior set-up.

RUWFC are already looking ahead to next season, with trial dates booked in for June and July and an open call has gone out to players of all ages to get their names down.

Manager Adam Rawlings said: “The Notts County game was about giving some of the young players a chance.

“I think only three players in that squad are over 18.

“The whole project since we have been at the club is about not just this season, but next season too, and longevity of success, and what we have now is a young squad that is thriving.

“Our goal is to make sure we are ready for next season, as no team in this league has gone up in recent years when losing more than one game.

“You have to be impeccable; you have to be faultless.

“With a long pre-season, we can help the group develop and build on what we have created already.

“The trials will be a really good part of our recruitment process.”

Looking to the last three games of the season, Rawlings said there was one key target, with the league title now out of reach.

“The final is important now, the final is our season, he said.

“But we would like to finish strongly with Sheffield and Mansfield and see if we can finish in second place

“Whatever happens, it’s promising already and we are on to good things next season for sure.”
