Two of the coaches who ensure the Millers are match ready will be putting their own fitness to the test in charity challenges.

Goalkeeping coach Tom Armstrong and fitness coach Mike Dyson are both in training for sponsored runs in aid of good causes.

Tom (below right) and his fellow coaches from Preditor Goalkeeping training will be running around Thrybergh Country Park at the end of October with some of their students before heading off to complete a half-marathon.

Proceeds will to Newman School in Whiston, which supports children with special educational needs.

Tom, whose previous charity events include a cabaret night at the New York Stadium, said: “Our target is £1,000 and we hope to smash it with everyone’s help.

“Our 12-year-olds and under will be competing the half marathon over the month of October and running their last two miles with the coaches around Thrybergh Country Park.

“That will be the start of the half marathon for the senior keepers and the coaches.

“We have from now until the end of October to raise as much as we can for the charity.

“Every little bit of money will mean so much of a difference to the school.”

Mike (below left) will take on his first marathon in aid of the Royal British Legion at the Yorkshire Marathon Festival in York on October 15.

The former Army reservist said: “As a personal trainer, I’m used to encouraging other people to push their limits but this time I’m going well outside my own comfort zone.

“I’ve been working hard in training to increase my stamina and endurance and just imagining how amazing it will feel to cross the marathon finish line.

“The Royal British Legion is a great cause and they do so much for a lot of veterans who would otherwise struggle, but a lot of people think they only need money when Remembrance Day is approaching.
