MATCH REPORT: Simmons steps up to claim points in dramatic fashion

Two very late goals gave the Millers a vital victory over one of their challengers at the top end of the table.

Sidni Simmons smashed home a long-range free kick in stoppage time at Ilkeston Town to edge Rotherham into a 2-1 lead.

And sub Milly Colford put the icing on the cake by adding a third in the dying seconds.

The game at the Manor Ground had looked set to end in frustration for the Millers.

Delia Hurdiss had given them the lead with 23 minutes gone but Georgina Williams hit back for Ilkeston against the run of play.

A point would have been little use to either as they look to push runaway leaders Lincoln United as hard as possible for top spot, but it looked to be honours even.

That was until the dramatic intervention of Simmons, whose free kick against Chesterfield last weekend proved equally destructive.

The win moves Rotherham up one place to fourth but they have games in hand on Ilkeston.

Fifth place Basford United are in town next weekend for a 2pm kick-off at Roundwood on Sunday.

Meanwhile, it was a disappointing afternoon for the Reserves as their run in the Shield was ended by Chesterfield.

Two second half goals gave the hosts victory at Shirebrook Academy.

Middlewood Rovers are their opponents this Sunday.
