MATCH REPORT: Ilkeston Town 3 – 8 Rotherham United

Rotherham United Women continued their prolific form in front of goal as they registered back-to-back wins on the road.

Following a 5-0 victory at SJR Worksop a week earlier, the Millers smashed eight past Ilkeston Town.

A blistering opening spell saw Adam Rawlings’ side race into a four-goal league after just 16 minutes, a haul they managed to double by full time.

Beth Howarth seized on a ball through the centre of the home defence to slot home just four minutes in and Alesha Gale doubled the lead with a sure finish off the post five minutes later.

Jess Jones added a third – her sixth in three games – on 11 minutes and Gale gobbled up the rebound when Dina Sarayreh’s shot was saved.

While Ilkeston pulled one back just before the break, Jones restored the four-goal lead moments later.

A 45 minutes to truly savour, and the half-time cuppa – or Bovril for your club correspondent – tasted just that little better for those who’d travelled south.

The hosts pegged the Millers back further after the interval with two more goals but a spectacular cameo from sub Amanda Millar put the result beyond doubt.

After racing down the left to slot home and clinically finishing Howarth’s path, Millar cut inside to complete a superb hat trick with a curler into the top corner.

The 8-3 result saw the Millers climbing to sixth in the table with a trip to Stamford up next on 10 November.
