Two goals from Alesha Gale rescued a point for Rotherham United Women at Anstey Nomads.

The forward smashed in a 25-yarder after a neat turn past her marker to save the Millers from the prospect of a disappointing defeat in Leicestershire.

Anstey had overturned a half-time deficit despite turning out with just ten players, Monique Price and Analeice Wilkes each scoring within two minutes.

Despite a scrappy first half in which both sides struggled to make many chances, the Millers should have been out of sight by that point.

Home keeper Megan Kenney saved well from Delia Hurdiss and Jessie Broadhurst headed just wide moments later.

And the Millers’ pressure told on the half-hour when Gale raced onto Sidni Simmons’ lofted ball and lobbed Kenney to break the deadlock.

Gale looked to have won a penalty when she was felled just after the break but appeals for a spot kick were waved away – only for Nomads to land a double sucker punch within ten minutes.

Gale’s second saved red faces all round but was not enough to keep Rotherham on track for a top three finish.

The Millers have one league match left against Ilkeston Town – on a date to be arranged – and a date at the New York Stadium against Sheffield Wednesday next Sunday on the near horizon.
