Back to school for proud striker Sophia

Rotherham United Women’s young forward Sophia Swan went back to school to help inspire would-be Lionesses with her own story.

The 16-year-old signed for the Millers’ senior squad after coming through the RUFC Emerging Talent Centre and is already making her mark.

The teenage striker returned to Brinsworth Manor Junior School, where she first played as a Year 6 pupil, for a careers workshop alongside Drew Russell from Rotherham United Community Trust.

Sophia spoke about her own progression through the Rotherham United ranks, took part in interactive sessions with children and donated a signed Millers shirt.

Sophia said: “I loved going back to my primary school and seeing so many young girls wanting to be footballers.“There were only a few of us when I was there.

“I felt very lucky to be able to encourage them it is possible and to not give up. It was a wonderful day and memory I will not forget.”

Sophia has shown plenty of promise for Rotherham United Women, scoring three league goals so far and becoming a regular in boss Adam Rawlings’ matchday squad.

She is also in with a chance of being selected to represent her country as she goes through trials with England Colleges this coming weekend (15/16 November).
